Childcare during 9am Mass
During our Sunday morning 9 am Mass, we offer childcare for children ages 1 year old through preschool age. The childcare room is located downstairs in Room 5 off of Yeazel Hall. This is a great way for parents to participate in Mass uninterrupted and with peace knowing their little ones are being loved and cared for by fellow friends.
Childcare is provided by 4 teams consisting of 2 adults and 2-3 teens. Each team will serve about once a month. Holy Cross and the Syracuse Diocese requires that all adult volunteers by VIRTUS trained.Would you be willing to volunteer once a month on our Childcare Team? Sign up below.
Children’s Liturgy of the Word
Young children experience the weekly scripture at a level suitable for their ages. The children are called forward at the beginning of the Liturgy of the Word for a blessing and dismissed from the assembly to the children’s chapel downstairs, where the readings and Gospel are proclaimed from a Children’s Lectionary along with an age-appropriate reflection/lesson and activity. The children return to their families at the beginning of the Liturgy of the Eucharist during the Presentation of the Gifts.
CLW is appropriate for kindergarten age children up to First Eucharist preparation (mid-year of 2nd Grade).
CLW is held during the 9:00 AM Sunday Mass unless it is Family Mass Sunday. Volunteers serve on a rotating basis, approximately once every 6 weeks. Three teams with three volunteers per team—one presents the Scripture and lesson, two others assist with supervision. For the safety of our children Holy Cross and the Syracuse Diocese require that all adult volunteers must be Virtus trained.
Youth & Family Mass
Our parish comes together to celebrate our Youth and Families. Our young people and families participate in the Mass. Children are invited to gather at the sanctuary steps for the Homily which is geared to them. Youth & Family Mass is held twice monthly during the Sunday 9:00 AM, usually the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month (see calendar for exact dates).
Family, Food, & Fun
Family, Food, & Fun (FFF) is exactly that. All are invited to enjoy fellowship together, to gather with family, greet friends, and meet new friends. Refreshments are served and a craft or activity is offered for the children. FFF is held monthly in Yeazel Hall following the Sunday 9:00 AM Youth / Family Mass, usually the 4th Sunday of the Month (see calendar for exact dates). The committee assists with planning the Mass and securing volunteers to assist. They also coordinate, set-up and clean-up refreshments and craft or activity.
