Obituary

It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Patty (Patricia) Propp, 89, who departed this life on February 23, 2024, surrounded by her family. Our lives have been greatly enhanced with reminiscences of Patty and we will always embrace her beauty, kind character, joyful spirit, sage advice and more than anything, her love.

Patty was born November 27, 1934 to Fred and Arlene (Bush) Gubbins and was raised in Rome, New York. When she was 19, she met her husband, Henry Propp, while he was stationed at Griffiss AirForce Base in Rome, New York. Henry was sent to Greenland for work but told Patty to “wait for him” until he returned. She did. They married soon after, and started a beautiful family with four children. Patty gracefully handled the challenges of being a military spouse and mother, with multiple moves throughout the US, taking her to Cape Cod, Massachusetts, Mount Airy, North Carolina, Plattsburgh, New York, Biloxi, Mississippi, Battle Creek, Michigan, and eventually Syracuse, New York where she lived for the remainder of her life. She and Henry were married for 69 years.

More than anything, she loved her children, and her husband. Patty was a homemaker and found great satisfaction cooking for her family and keeping a beautiful house.  She loved spending time with her siblings, affectionately called the “Gubby Girls”, and was always keen to dance and sing to music from all eras.  She was an accommodating host and always welcomed her family into her home. She had a competitive character, and enjoyed playing games. Patty was physically active, playing sports with her children and grandchildren and even playing volleyball into her late 60’s. She had a delicate touch and only kind words for others. She will be deeply missed, but we will hold dearly all her teachings, laugh filled memories and especially her love.

Patty was predeceased by her husband, Henry Propp on January 3, 2024; her parents, Fred and Arlene Gubbins; her siblings, Beverly Schroth, Jack Gubbins, Faith Jones, Joan Avery, Elaine Gubbins; and her sister in law, Joan Gubbins. She is survived by her daughters, Jody Fundalinski (Tad), and Cindy Winslow (David); her sons, Theodore Propp (Theresa), and David Propp (Carol); her grandchildren, Nikki Winslow, Rachael Propp, Briana Wright (JP), Amanda Propp, Jessica Fundalinski, Dawson Propp and Morgan Propp; her great grandchildren, Joshua Rojek, Penelope Wright, Mabel Wright and Roman Wright; her sisters, Gail Byrnes (Thomas), and Hope Vinneau; her brother-in-law, Daniel Propp (Dolores); and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated privately. Patty will be buried at St. Mary’s Cemetery in DeWitt, with her recently deceased husband, Henry Propp.

Arrangements are with Fairchild & Meech DeWitt Chapel.
